Kigali, Rwanda – May 19, 2023 — On May 19, 2023, Ms. Sanjana Rathi, CEO of The CyberDiplomat, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, Rwanda, as a solemn gesture to honor the memory of the victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. This visit underscored her commitment to fostering global awareness of the importance of reconciliation, remembrance, and resilience in the aftermath of such tragic events.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial stands as a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed during the Genocide against the Tutsi, serving as the final resting place for over 250,000 victims. Located just outside central Kigali, the memorial is both a place of remembrance and an educational institution, offering valuable insights into the Rwandan Genocide and the broader context of genocide throughout the 20th century.

During her visit, Ms. Rathi reflected on the importance of acknowledging the lessons of history to prevent future atrocities. She expressed her admiration for the resilience of the Rwandan people and emphasized the role of education and dialogue in promoting peace and understanding globally.

“The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a profound symbol of humanity’s ability to endure and rebuild in the face of unimaginable loss,” said Ms. Rathi. “As we honor the memory of the victims, we must also renew our commitment to justice, tolerance, and unity.”

Ms. Rathi’s visit to the memorial coincided with her participation in the 10th National Security Symposium, held in Kigali from May 17 to May 19, 2023, where she delivered a compelling speech on the transformative impact of digital technologies on Africa’s economy, diplomacy, and security.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial continues to serve as a beacon of hope, offering a space for learning and reflection. It plays a critical role in educating visitors about the consequences of hatred and the necessity of fostering inclusivity and understanding in societies worldwide.
