About the event

This pre-event session offers an expert briefing on the evolving role of drones and counter-drone technologies in law enforcement across Africa. Led by Sanjana Rathi, Mr. Jerry Akubo, and Mr. Sandra, the session will discuss developments, threat trends, operational challenges, and what to expect during the International Drone & Counter-Drone Conference.

Drones are reshaping the security landscape in Africa. Law-enforcement agencies are increasingly integrating unmanned aerial systems for surveillance, border monitoring, emergency response, and crime prevention. Yet the rapid commercialization of drones has triggered new risks — including terrorism, smuggling, espionage, contraband drops, and disruption of critical infrastructure.

This dual reality — drones as a tool and drones as a threat — requires a structured, coordinated, and capability-driven response.

As highlighted by INTERPOL and other global security bodies, addressing drone misuse requires:

  • Clear legal frameworks

  • Trained operational personnel
