Some partnerships are a single event. This one has been running for years. On 8 September 2022, The CyberDiplomat LLC and NITTE Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Yelahanka, Bengaluru, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build a Centre of Excellence in Cybersecurity on campus.
From agreement to equipment
An MoU on its own changes nothing. What matters is what gets built afterwards. Through 2023 we designed and deployed a Mini-SOC — a small security operations centre — for the campus: a network and server rack with storage, a high-performance workstation and analyst desks where students can watch traffic, investigate alerts and practise responding to incidents on real equipment rather than slides.
Why a lab matters
Cybersecurity is a practical discipline. You can teach the theory of an intrusion, but the skill is in noticing the one line in a log that does not belong, and knowing what to do in the next ten minutes. A lab gives students somewhere to make mistakes safely, and it gives faculty a place to set exercises that resemble the job.
A centre of excellence is not a plaque on a wall. It is equipment, curriculum and people who keep using them.
Training that continues
Since the MoU we have delivered a series of cybersecurity trainings and awareness sessions at NMIT, most recently in June 2025. Each visit is a chance to see what the students have built with the facility since the last one.
